CEBU CITY, Philippines — The reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global light flyweight champion Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob leads the list of PMI Bohol Boxing Stable stalwarts who recently ascended higher in the world boxing rankings.

Suganob (14-1, 4KOs), a former world title challenger, climbed five spots higher in the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) light flyweight division.

He was unranked in the WBO last October, but barged into the No. 7 spot in the world rankings after his dominant outing last November 4 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol against Venezuelan Ronald Chacon via unanimous decision.

Suganob also climbed five places higher in the World Boxing Council (WBC). From No. 14 last month, he is now ranked No. 9 in the WBC.

He is also ranked No. 7 in the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Suganob’s stablemate, Jake “El Bambino” Amparo (14-4-1, 3KOs), who has a scheduled world title eliminator showdown against former world champion Pedro Taduran on December 28, also improved his world rankings.

Amparo is ranked No. 4 in both the WBO and WBC minimumweight divisions. He is ranked No. 3 in the IBF and No. 10 in the WBA.

Amparo has a scheduled world title eliminator bout on December 28 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol in the main event of “Kumong Bol-Anon XIII” fight card agains Taduran.

Meanwhile, Cebuano boxer Christian Balunan (9-0, 5KOs) punched his way into the world rankings after winning the WBO Asia Pacific Youth minimumweight strap last November 4 in the undercard of Suganob and Chacon’s WBO Global title duel.

Balunan from Consolacion town, north Cebu was unranked before he won the WBO Asia Pacific title against Thai Aditep Maungchaoren via a third round knockout.

Now, he is in the Top 15 of WBO’s minimumweight division as of December’s latest rankings and will likely climb higher against other non-titled world-ranked boxers in the list.
