The Lapu-Lapu City council enacted ordinances appropriating cash reward and financial assistance to Oponganons who topped the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), and who will represent the Philippines in an Age Group Chess Championships 2015 respectively.

Kim Roxan Arong of barangay Mactan placed 9th in the LET that was given last March 29. She received P50,000.

The P125,000 financial assistance was given to Jerish John Velarde, who will represent the country in the “16 ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championships 2015” in Singapore on June 8-17.

The 8-year-old Velarde said Math is his favorite subject.

Mayor Paz Radaza said she was very proud of these Oponganons who brought prestige to the city.

“I am always inspired whenever an Oponganon brings good reputation to the city,” she said.
