THE Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-7) said it completed their geohazard assessment and mapping covering 3,003 barangays throughout the region.
Al Emil Berador, chief geologist said during yesterday’s news forum at the Philippine Information Agency that they distributed the geohazard maps to all cities and towns in Central Visayas.
He said these maps will help towns and cities identify landslide-prone, flood-prone and storm-surge hotspots. Berador said this is critical in light of the onset of the rainy season.
“The maps will be used to determine the suitability of the area for relocation especially the housing projects for the Yolanda-hit areas,” he said.
In Cebu City, the MGB-7 identified 19 landslide-prone areas and 20 barangays each in the towns of Balamban, Pinamungajan, Asturias and Dumanjug in southern Cebu.
