TWO weeks after it was imposed, the shellfish ban in four towns and one city in Bohol province stays, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) regional office.

Dr. Allan Poquita, BFAR-7 asst. regional director, said the coastal waters of Tagbilaran City and the towns of Maribojoc, Dauis, Panglao and Cortes are still contaminated with red tide.
He said two personnel from BFAR central office and one from their office conducted tests on the shellfish taken from these areas.
Guinea pigs that were injected with the sample died a few minutes later.
Poquita said they are monitoring the Bogo-Medellin Bay in Cebu, Bais Bay and Siit Bay in Negros Oriental and Maribojoc Bay and Cogtong Bay in Bohol for the presence of the algae that causes red tide toxins.
