THE Cebuana-powered Gilligan’s and Meralco advanced to the quarterfinals of the PLDT Home Ultera-Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup 2015 despite going through contrasting results in the final day of the elimination round late Saturday evening at the Sands by the Bay at the SM Mall of Asia.

The Sisig Queens tandem of Danika Gendrauli and Norie Diaz bounced back from their earlier loss to the Foton Hurricanes by beating Petron Sprint 4T, 18-21, 21-17, 15-7, to claim the final quarterfinal slot.

The Meralco pair of former national champion Jusabelle Brillo and Jem Gutierrez, on the other hand, got beaten by the Tornadoes duo of Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain, 14-21, 21-15, 15-17.

Ceballos, the reigning Queen of the Sand, delivered a pair of attacks down the crucial stretch of the deciding set to essay the victory and tow the Tornadoes to the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals in the women’s division will be composed of Amy’s, Philips Gold, Cignal HD Spikers B, Petron XCS, Foton Tornadoes, Meralco, Foton Hurricanes and Gilligan’s.
