Provincial health officials pointed to amoebiasis as having caused diarrhea to 67 persons in Tudela town, Camotes Island in northeast Cebu since Wednesday last week.
James Cañete, sanitary inspector of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), said six persons were confined in Ricardo Maningo Hospital in San Francisco after eating spoiled lechon (roast pig).
Of the six, four were children aged 3, 5 and 12.
He said they suspected the bacteria came from the kitchen utensils used in preparing the lechon.

A PHO team went to Tudela town yesterday to check on the source of the victims’ ailment.
Cañete advised vendors to have the meat checked by a meat inspector before selling it to ensure that the meat is safe to eat.
Tudela Mayor Erwin Yu said they will shoulder the hospital bills and other medical expenses of the victims.
He said the person who sold the lechon was also invited to appear before the municipal council yesterday afternoon. No charges have yet been filed against the person.
