The two-year old boy who died at the hospital two days after eating spoiled crackers was buried at the Lapu-Lapu City public cemetery yesterday morning.

Karl Jade Talingting died at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center two days after eating wafer sticks offered to him by a neighbor’s child.

Four children and an adult who ate the crackers suffered constipation and frequent vomiting.

“We ask the government to give justice to my son’s death,” the boy’s father Charlie Talingting told reporters.

Karl was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City hospital for treatment while the other children managed to recover after taking medicines.

The neighbor identified as Gretchen Jugan said she just bought the wafer sticks and biscuit packs from a co-worker named Marichu Abugay whose husband worked as a security guard in a biscuit company in Mandaue City.

Dr. Rodulfo Berame of the Lapu-Lapu City Health Office said they could not yet determine if the crackers and biscuits caused the illness.

He said a sample was brought to the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) for examination.

The repacked wafer sticks and biscuits were reportedly sold to workers of the Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) 1.
