Militants rally at Camp Osmeña to mark martial law

September 22,2015 - 02:40 AM

At least 50 political activists yesterday rallied in front of Camp Sergio Osmeña in Cebu City to mark the 43rd anniversary of the declaration of martial law in the country.
“If they ask us why we still hold protests, we also ask: Why, is there real democracy today?” said Jaime Paglinawan, Bayan Central Visayas chairman.
He said the Aquino administration failed to stop extrajudicial killings of activists, whose deaths number 262 based on Bayan’s count.
Paglinawan also complained that Bayan members were harassed by the police during and after their protest rallies against the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings held in Cebu City.
Paglinawan said a truck carrying some farmers from Aloguinsan town were halted by police in Pinamungajan town without being told of their violations.
“Giingnan mi nga kahibaw nami unsay mahitabo sa mga aktibista (We were told that we are fully aware what happens to any activist),” the Bayan coordinator told reporters./Correspondent Apple Mae Ta-as
