Stallions tie series

THE RDAK Stallions evened things up in the best-of-three Division A championship series with a hard-earned 79-72 victory over Petron-Goldberry in the 20th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Cup on Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena in Canduman, Mandaue City.
Jair Igna fired in 32 points for the second game in a row to help the Stallions equalize the series at 1-1 and send this finals encounter to a winner-take-all Game 3 on Wednesday at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
Igna, a former Magis Eagles standout, showed nerves of steel as he sank a long three-pointer with 45 seconds  left in the match that pushed his team’s lead back to four and kept the hard-fighting Petron-Goldberry at bay until the game’s final buzzer.
Petron-Goldberry shot itself in the foot late in the third when its head coach, BJ Murillo, got ejected for excessive complaining. Ed Macasling paced the squad with 24 points.
In the day’s other game, the Cebu Landmasters got some consolation as they routed the Bayfront Hotel Cebu, 99-76.
Daryl Tan and Kyle Valmoria formed an awesome-twosome for the Landmasters as they scored 24 and 21 points, respectively.
