Padres Recoletos rallies past RCBL All–Star
THE RECOLETOS de Cebu Basketball League (RCBL) Padres Recoletos clawed back from an 18-point deficit and nosed out RCBL All-Star, 100-98, in their exhibition game last Saturday at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Main Campus basketball court.
Rev. Fr. Roland Cepe delivered the game-winning basket when he converted a fast-break play just before the final buzzer.
The marginal basket capped Cepe’s brilliant performance as he finished with 35 points, netting him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
The exhibition game kicked off the opening of the brand-new season RCBL basketball tournament.
Co-founder and organizer Chito Sy said that the two-month-long tournament is a way of recognizing “unsung heroes” who have worked hard to contribute to the development of the local Recoletos community.
Sy said the tournament helps promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among non-teaching personnel.
Competing six teams include Recoletos Pilipinas (convent and former seminarians), Mt. Carmel Parish/Talavera, Campus Planners (maintenance personnel), Security Guards, Pacubas Cleaners and the Our Lady of Consolation Parish de Laray (priests and personnel).
The tournament will follow a single round-robin tournament and will run until December. Games will be played every Saturday starting Nov. 7.
