ALA Boxing Gym’s Arjan “Spartan” Canillas bucked a second round knockdown and escaped Rey Labao via a unanimous decision win in last Saturday night’s “Bakbakan Sa Danao” at the Civic Center in Danao City, northern Cebu.

Canillas, a regular fixture in the highly popular Pinoy Pride series, came back strong after getting floored in the second round as he dismantled Labao’s tough defense in the ensuing rounds.

Judges Edwin Barrientos scored the bout at 98-91, Arnie Najera saw it at 97-92, while Teddy Alivio had it 96-93, all for Canillas.

Canillas, thus, got his 12th straight win with nine knockouts and two draws.

Labao, a former Philippine lightweight champion, suffered his eighth loss.

Prior to meeting Canillas, Labao, who has 27 wins with 18 KOs, lost to German Rico Mueller in their International Boxing Organization (IBO) Intercontinental welterweight fight held in Berlin, Germany last June.

In other fights, Vicente Casido settled for a draw against Boyce Sultan, Raul Yu and Richard Sueno also fought to a draw, while Victor Vitor defeated Robert Awitin via a second round KO.
