Top Cebuano cagers take shot at Batang Gilas spot

CEBU’S  finest up-and-coming basketball players tried out for a shot at donning the country’s colors in the national tryouts for the Batang Gilas which started on Friday and concludes today at the Meralco Gym.

Showing off their southern bred talent were NBTC MVP Joshua Sinclair who now plays for National University, former CESAFI juniors MVP Janjan Jaboneta, Jancork Cabahug of the University of the Visayas, his former teammate Theo Joshua Flores who also now plays for NU, Ain Obenza of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and current San Beda Red Lion JB Bahio.

Sinclair said it felt great to see familiar faces on the floor.

“I hope that some of us get in. They said that they will just text us early next year, ” said the former Ateneo de Cebu standout.

Jaboneta also felt confident with his performance during the tryouts that was supervised by head coach Mike Oliver. Jaboneta, also a former ace of Ateneo de Cebu, now plays for the University of the Philippines in the UAAP.

The Batang Gilas is slated to play in several tournaments including the Seaba Under-18 Championships.
