About 25 foreign guests from cities visited by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan during his circumnavigation are now in Cebu for their 5th global meeting.

Members of the Global Network of Magellan Cities (GNMC) will conduct a two-day workshop here in preparation for the 500th year celebration of Magellan’s expedition scheduled from year 2019 to 2021.

The city’s guests include mayors and representatives of 25 European, South American and Asian Cities.

They started arriving Monday and will stay on for their two-day workshop scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Assisted by personnel from Cebu City’s protocol office, delegates gathered at the Plaza Sugbu near the Magellan’s Cross on Tuesday morning to witness a reenactment of Magellan’s arrival in Cebu prepared by the Cultural Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC).

Mayor Michael Rama later led guests to a tour of the city’s cultural and heritage sites which include Fort San Pedro, the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, Sto. Niño Museum, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, the Jesuit House and the Yap-Sandiego Museum.

Rama is the GNMC Vice President for Asia and the Pacific.
