Yestesterday was a holiday Cebu City as it celebrated its Charter Day with numerous activities led by City Mayor Michael Rama and Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella.

Capping the festivities was a formal dinner yesterday evening at the Santamaria ballroom of the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Today, Feb. 25, is the birthday of Ingrid Sala Santamaria who will celebrate it in Manila.

Ingrid called the other day to inform us that her mentor Professor Reynaldo Reyes passed away in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

From January 2001 to August 2015, Ingrid and Reynaldo performed together in numerous recitals all over the Philippines and some cities in Asia and the USA in what they called Romantic Piano Concerto Journey Tours.

Their repertoire consisted of compositions written during the Romantic Era, 1800— 1900. A book on these tours will be released before the year ends, one of a set of three.

The first one was about Ingrid’s career as a concert pianist. The second one is about the Romantic Piano Concerto Journey Tours, and the third, also to be presented by year end is about the Cebu Youth Symphony Orchestra, the result of a music development program by the Salvador and Pilar Sala Foundation.

On Wednesday, March 2 from 3 to 6 p.m., is the launching of the MSY Tower at its 12th floor, located at the Pescadores Road of Cebu Business Park.

As we all know, MSY stands for Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung who that day marks her birthday. Many happy returns!

The MSY Tower had its blessing on Jan. 4 by Msgr. Roberto Alesna. It was a quiet affair and I unwittingly walked into it, after the blessing.

I had earlier been to the H. Lhuillier office on the eight floor of the Cebu Holdings Building. On my way down, as I often did, I stopped at the 5th floor where the MSY office was located.

At the door there was a sign that said MSY Holdings had moved to its new building. Since I had time, I decided to pass by there.

I went up to the 12th floor as indicated by a concierge and sought out Monette Aliño who was there. She led me to Carlos and Mariquita Yeung, as well as Carla and Chris McKowen, who said they are planning to put up a restaurant in the ground floor.

Then I saw Msgr. Alesna and I deduced that he had blessed the premises on the first day of work for the New Year. Mariquita said there’d be an event to inaugurate the building and this is it, on March 2.

Coming events: The Cebu chapter of the Consular Corps of the Philippines will have a meeting on March 9 at 12 noon, at the Casino Español de Cebu.

The Casino Español de Cebu will have its annual general membership meeting and election of officers on March 31.

Joen and Jill de las Peñas are celebrating the 18th birthday of their daughter Mary Angeli on Saturday April 30 with a ball at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa.

Some time in May is the reopening of Casa Gorordo Museum after extensive repairs and decoration. It will be ready for this year’s “Gabii sa Kabilin,” spearheaded for some years now by Jocelyn Gerra who heads the cultural arm of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI).
