Cepca monthly tournament to usher club’s busy 2014 season
THE CEBU Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) will formally start its series of tournaments with the Cepca Monthly Qualifying Tournament 2014 on Jan. 26 at the Handuraw Pizza along Gorordo Avenue in Lahug, Cebu City.
The monthly qualifying tilt for the month of January is a five-round Swiss System tournament with handicapping time controls of 10 minutes for Class A and 15 minutes for Class B.
Registration fee is pegged at P200, inclusive of snacks and drinks.
Leading the list of competitors is Jimmy Ty, Jr. of Tacloban City, who was crowned king in Cepca’s Tournament of Champions last year.
Ty will be given a run for his money by Manuel Abucay, Peterson Sia, Percival Fiel, Maggi Dionson, Rey Flores, Carlo Maraat, Jerry Maratas, Amado Olea, Jun Pasion SPO4 Ruel Hortelano and Jojo Muralla, who all registered bright performances in the Tournament of Champions. Also expected to see action are Marvyne Guardiana, Dante Arguelles, Jun Kidlat, Boy Pestano and Mandy Baria.
