Choose the right leaders

Tomorrow more than 50 million Filipinos all over the country are called upon to exercise their mandated duty to vote for the next batch of elective officials who will serve in the next three to six years.

As voters, it is of utmost importance that we examine, assess and evaluate our choices so we can be sure that who we vote for will surely bring genuine reforms to our government and country.

I know that there are candidates who promise us genuine change while others would like to maintain the status quo and still others offer a government that is more sympathetic to the plight of the people.

In the latest survey nothing much changed. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte led the pack followed by Sen. Grace Poe. The Aquino administration has become so desperate that they called on other candidates to put up a united front against Duterte.

Roxas personally asked Poe for a meeting in order to discuss putting up a united front against Duterte but Poe said while Roxas can call her anytime, there is nothing much to talk about already and she would respect the people’s decision.

The administration is basically throwing everything including the kitchen sink to destroy Duterte and stop him from becoming president of our country.

There are talks that the remaining candidates and a TV network are out to stop by all means Duterte from becoming president but unfortunately it is too late.

There are talks that the administration is planning to cheat this coming election but it is not possible because the people are so vigilant and will not allow any sector to cheat in the election and foil their will.

In Cebu, the opposition identified a former police officer as part of a plan to make use of the police organization to secure the victory of the administration bet in the election.

But for me, if the present administration wants to leave a lasting legacy to the people I ask that they secure an honest and orderly election and to let the voice of the people be heard.

It is not also accurate for the administration to tag a Duterte presidency as a dictatorship and a Roxas presidency as democracy. Students of the Philippine Constitution know that it is very difficult, almost impossible, for a president to become a dictator and I am pretty sure that the people would not allow a dictatorship to prosper.

If I were the administration I would end all attempts to stop our people from freely choosing their new leaders and trust that the people would no longer allow another declaration of martial law.

What have they to fear when in fact Duterte chose to run for the presidency, a part of the democratic process of elections. I don’t think that he will destroy his political future by destroying the country’s future.

Duterte may have exemplified strong leadership and that may be the reason why the people love him because the people think that this country needs a strong leader to lead the country.

I also ask our people to drop by today at their respective churches and pray to God for a peaceful and orderly and honest elections.
