A FAKE Facebook account, purportedly of Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña has recently been seen on the Internet and caught the attention of netizens because of the posts allegedly made by Osmeña.

The posts, purporting to portray a strong anti-illegal drugs stand, actually ends in an “admission” of an affair.

Last May 23, the “Tommy Osmeña 2016” Facebook page posted, “The reason I am very much against Drug Lords, Drug Pushers and Drug Addicts because my wife was once tempted to be a drug addict. She took shabu and ecstasy. I understood why she indulged herself with shabu. She was devastated when I had a relationship with (name withheld). Our daughter is now 23 years old and based in the US.”
As of 5:35 p.m. yesterday, the post had more than 1,800 likes and 40 shares. It also had 90 comments from the netizens.

On May 24, another status was posted. It read, “I had been elected as the youngest Cebu City Mayor and now, been elected as the oldest City Mayor. I will be turning 70 years old come July 2016. I am already in the twilight of my life, and I will have to publicly recognize my daughter with (name withheld). How I wish our daughter can attend my birthday celebration, my life will be complete.”

This post had more than 1,500 likes, 25 shares and 40 comments.

The account was apparently opened in April, 2013, based on the oldest post shown in the account, or a month before the May 2013 elections.

Several comments said this was a fake account and urged Osmeña to investigate the fake FB account.

One netizen commented: “This page is run by desperate Team Rama supporters.”

Asked for a comment regarding the posts, Osmeña said in a text message, “The disinformation on a fake Facebook page with allegations, is coming from a has-been media man who is bitter about his lost credibility.”

Asked if it affected his family, Osmeña said, “I’m used to it.”

Osmeña’s wife, Acting City Mayor Margot Osmeña dismissed the FB posts saying, “God bless them.”

Margot, who spoke with Cebu Daily News said, “You know, if they want to waste time, let it be. It’s a fake account,” she laughed while speaking on another line.
