Cebu bets arrange title match in Milo netfest

CEBUANA junior netters Shyne Villareal and Zethley Mae Alferez blasted separate opponents to set up a titular showdown in the premier 18-under girls’ division of the 2016 Milo Junior Tennis Cup-Visayas Leg yesterday at the CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

Alferez, a Batang Pinoy gold medalist, scored two consecutive victories, winning over Mariel Villa, 6-3, 6-0, and second-ranked Kristin Salimbangon, 7-5, 6-1, while the top-ranked Villareal of Naga City, Cebu prevailed over Pink Floyd Manabat, 6-3, 6-1.

Villareal and Alferez are set to go up against each other today for the 18-under girls’ plum.

In other events, Lapu-Lapu City’s Tiffany Claire Nocos clinched a semifinal berth in the 14-under girls’ play with wins over Angelica Claridad, 6-0, 6-1, and Pherl Bless Coderos, 6-0, 6-1.

In boys’ play, Cebu’s Chad Connor Cuizon and Mitch Largo made it to the semis of the 10-unisex division after dominating their respective opponents.

The first-ranked Cuizon dispatched Romeo Opoletisima, 4-0, 4-0, while Largo nipped Jave Legaspi, 4-0, 4-0, and fellow Cebuano CJ Thalia Suson, 4-0, 4-0.
