A MARKER that informs passengers how airport personnel’s welfare are being protected had been unveiled at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Wednesday.
Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis- Baldoz led the unveiling of the Labor Laws Compliance Marker Mactan Cebu. She said the MCIA is the first airport that complied with the country’s labor law standards.
The commitment was signed by the MCIA management, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Lapu-Lapu City government.
“We commit to remain compliant to Labor Laws, most specially to wages and General Labor Standards, Occupational Safety and Health as we maintain to be child-labor free and compliant to all advocacies of DOLE,” read the commitment.
Some of the co-signatores are representatives from GMR and MCIA concessionares, ground handlers, other airport areas, other general aviation occupants, rent-a cars/cabs, airlines and general aviation locators.
In a separate interview Andrew Aquaah-Harrison, chief executive advisor, GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. said the challenge now lies ahead in maintaining the compliance of each of the locators and concessionaries.
“It’s so easy to start and it would be hard to keep it. But we are discussing how we can make this operational and maintain the compliance marker,” he said.
To maintain the compliance marker, MCIA has to pass the DOLE’s screening annually. Those contractors found not to be complying with labor laws will risk having their permit revoked by DOLE and MCIA.
