Mandaue traffic, garbage, drug woes tackled

By: Julit C. Jainar June 30,2016 - 10:41 PM

MANDAUE City Mayor Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing said during his first press briefing as mayor yesterday that his administration will immediately work on solving the key problems of the city.

These are traffic, solid waste management, criminality and the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city.

Aside from the issue on garbage, the traffic polices will be strictly implemented beginning today and this includes the observance of no double parking in key areas.

“Starting tomorrow (today) we will be implementing our traffic laws very strictly in the city of Mandaue, our solid waste management, littering rules, our segregation policies, as well,” Quisumbing told reporters after he took his oath of office inside the city council session hall together with other elected officials yesterday morning.

The city will also work with their in-house Information Technology (IT) as well as the city’s traffic experts to put in systems that will allow the implementation of ‘no contact apprehension policy.’

On solid waste management, he said that he is studying the possibility of privatizing garbage collection.

After hearing reports of drug pushers and users who surrendered, he said he was open to the idea of setting up a rehabilitation center in the city, which will address the need of those who couldn’t afford the services of private rehabilitation centers.
