Power cut off in Surigao del Sur amid Auring’s fury
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — Power was cut off in 12 of 19 localities of Surigao del Sur province on Sunday amid the fury of Tropical Storm Auring.
In an advisory released at around 8 a.m., the Surigao del Sur II Electric Cooperative said they cut off power due to floods brought by moderate to heavy rains dumped by the storm which is still hovering over the waters.
The affected areas are the towns of Lianga, San Agustin, Marihatag, Cagwait, Bayabas, San Miguel, Cortes, Lanuza, Carmen, and Madrid, portions of Tago town, and the provincial capital Tandag City.
In the 4 a.m. advisory of state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the storm was estimated to be 395 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 80 km/h.
Auring is moving west-northwest at 15 km per hour, the Pagasa advisory added.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is up in the province of Dinagat Islands and the northern portion of Surigao del Norte particularly Surigao City and the towns of Sison, Tagana-an, Placer and San Francisco including Siargao and Bucas Grande islands.
Signal No. 1 is up in the rest of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur provinces.
