Rama won’t file charges against council
Since the Cebu City Council did not overrid his veto of portions of the P13.4 billion budget for this year, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he would no longer pursue filing charges against the local lawmakers.
“If they didn’t override, that means they may have understood that they have a role which is only complementing (the mayor), maybe fiscalizing but not arrogating, not substituting (powers),” Rama told reporters yesterday.
The mayor rejected, among others, a condition in the approved budget that restricts his spending a P4.5 billion capital outlay pending the sale of lots in the South Road Properties which were identified as fund sources.
Rama also vetoed a condition placed by the City Council which requires barangays to submit project proposals before they can collect P800 million in financial assistance earmarked for their areas.
The P13.4 billion budget, which the mayor calls th “people’s budget” is the biggest ever for Cebu City.
