THE Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) has issued an order to stop the demolition works in the gutted Metro Gaisano Department Store in Cebu Business Park yesterday.

This after a construction worker fell from the fourth level of the defunct building yesterday at 11:42 a.m. The victim was identified as Beltran Arcocero, 46, of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

DOLE-7 Assistant Regional Director Roy Buenafe said they will conduct further investigation on the incident. He said they will be having a technical conference with the contractor, Dakay Construction, on Monday.

Based on the investigation, Arcocero was doing demolition works when hit by a falling concrete debris that pulled him to the ground.
Cebu Daily News tried to ask for comment from Dakay Construction but they refused to issue a statement.

Lawyer Vincent Tomaning, general counsel of Metro Gaisano, said in a text message that the contractor will be taking care “of all the necessary consequence”’ brought by the incident.

“It was a pure and simple accident,” Tomaning said.
