At least 30 policemen will be sent to the mountain barangays in Cebu City where supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA) have reportedly been trying to recruit new members.

Senior Supt. Noli Romana, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said they were told by the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) that  NPA recruiters have been  conducting house-to-house visits to recruit new members.

Romana said these barangays are located in the boundary of Cebu City and Balamban town.

Cebu City and Cebu province are categorized as “white areas” which means these places do not have insurgency threats.

Senior Supt. Paul Labra II, chief of RID, said farmers have reported to the police that members of non-government organization identified as supporters of NPA have been frequenting their place.

Labra said the recruitment could be part of the NPA’s effort to raise funds.

Some NPA members have even resorted to planting marijuana in Balamban, said Labra.
