THE Lumad Kagapihanon topped the 4th Silhig Paknaan Festival held in Mandaue City yesterday, besting eight other contingents to win Best in Silhig Steps and Best in Choreography awards.
The group won the P25,000 cash prize. First runner-up honors went to Tribu Calupi, who won the P20,000 prize while Nagkahiusang Kabatan-onan was 2nd runner-up and received P15,000 cash prize.
Best in street dancing honors went to the Pundok Tulaynon contingent while the Best in Andas award was given to Lumad Paknaanon.
Hundreds of residents in barangay Paknaan turned out to celebrate the 4th Paknaan Silhig Festival.
The celebration started with street dancing at 1 p.m. and ended at the reclamation area near Casaga bridge.
The festival was intended to promote Paknaan as the makers of the “silhig lanut” or broom made of Buri tree fibers, a source of livelihood for many residents. It was held after their annual fiesta last February 7.
This year’s festival theme is Silhig: Panaghugpong sa Paknaan Alang sa Mauswagong Kaugmaon./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
