14 qualify for OWWA scholarship

FOURTEEN of the 329 applicants from the Central Visayas have made it to the top 200 in the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s Education for Development Scholarship Program (OWWA EDSP) national qualifying examination conducted simultaneously nationwide by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute on Sept. 24, 2014.

The 14 applicants who qualified for the OWWA’s college scholarship program starting school year 2015-2016 are Azel Balbon Amada, Raul Alam-alam Asdillo Jr., Kaylene Ann Villaroya Cachila, Lindberge Sevilla Calano, Karlee Christine

Almerol Calope, Arell Anne Cortez Dabalos, Mary Dorothy Dumancas Dinampo, Meg Elnasin Dizon, Gio Dean Adlaon Dolotina, Nina Lynn Benrales Lagroma, Geniviarie Cornelia Lasola, Kendra Maxine Cilocilo Matig-a, Ysabelle Kate Delearna Rayco and Alyssa Zena Alba Tan.

Of the 14 passers, seven are from Cebu, four from Bohol and three from Negros Oriental.

Azel Balbon Amada of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental and a daughter of an OFW working in Jakarta, Indonesia landed fourth place in the exam.

The scholarship program offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are active OWWA members.

Qualified scholars are entitled to  financial assistance worth P60,000 per year that will cover tuition and other academic expenses.
