Hayodini and Buaron cited for returning wallet of IronMan participant
Two street sweepers from the Mandaue City Department of General Services (DGS) were awarded by the city government for returning the lost wallet of the IronMan participant.
Cash rewards were given to Linda Hayodini, 43, and Editha Buaron, 60, both residents of Barangay Looc, Mandaue City.
Hayodini said that while she and Buaron were sweeping along the road at the Mandaue City Sports Complex on Friday, they found a wallet containing P1,800 and other important cards.
The two found a contact number inside the wallet and immediately texted the number. They later found out the number belongs to the father of Cerro Robin, the owner of the wallet.
“Iyaha ming gi-picturan and nagpasalamat siya namo. Iya gani mi gipakaon kay udto naman to (He took photo of us and thanked us. He also treated us to lunch),” Hayodini said.
Buaron said they were not aware that their picture was posted on Facebook and sent to the official Facebook page of the city’s Public Information Office (PIO).
In the Facebook account of Robin, he thanked the two sweepers for returning his wallet. He even posted a screen shot of the text message sent by the sweepers to his father.
“Dili sila modawat og reward or pahalipay, okay na daw kaayo nga nakatabang sila. Mga maayo jud diay ning mga taw sa Mandaue (They would not accept a reward. For them being able to help is enough. People of Mandaue are good),” the Facebook post reads.
Buaron has been a street sweeper in Mandaue for 12 years now. She said they decided to return the wallet because they were briefed that they should return anything important that they found on the streets.
Hayodini, who has been a street sweeper since 2010, was teary-eyed when the city’s Chief of Staff, Atty. Elaine Bathan, handed them the rewards.
Bathan thanked the two for being good examples.
“Wala mi magdahom nga ma awardan mi, ang amoa ma-uli namo ang pitaka, na kulbaan gani mi nga gipatawag mi,” Hayodini said.
