The Assumption ‘old girls’ gather

FOR today, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m., at the Cebu Grand Ballroom of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel: “Love and Passementerie.” That’s a fashion show of 15 exquisitely confected bridal gowns designed by Jojo Martinez.

The show is in partnership with the Zonta Club of Cebu II, to support its livelihood programs and projects for women. The art of crochet is part of this concern, we gather.

Jojo Martinez is championing the cause of crochet by applying it to wedding gowns and other aspects of well dressing. A documentary will be shown this evening on how to appreciate passementerie and how to preserve the art of crochet.

If you wish to attend, get in touch with Jojo Martinez at the Blue Garden Complex, corner Wilson and Fulton streets, tel. 255-8127, or Mai Mai Varron at Dreamboat Events, cell 0932-504 8800.

No matter how young they may be, alumnae of the Assumption College (it used to be called Convent) are called “old girls.”

Every year on Aug. 15, Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven, the Cebu “old girls” have an activity.

From 9 to 11 a.m., there will be a talk by Sister Regivic on the Bicentennial Celebration of the Assumption in 2017.

At 12 noon, there will be Holy Mass officiated by Fr. Ernesto Javier SJ, followed by lunch.

Every day is a Fiesta at Feria, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, so we found out one delightful evening with general manager Laurent Boisdron, hotel manager Fabien Martinez, sales and marketing director Ann Olalo, and communications director Princes Anderle.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the buffet at Feria is at P880 per person; and on prime nights— Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays —it is at P1,650 per person.

Monday is for seafood; blue crab, anyone? On Tuesdays you have comfort food, a long list of it, with unlimited tempura. Wednesdays are international, with cheese and wine pairings.

Mediterranean highlights are for Thursday, and that includes imaginative salads galore. On Fridays the theme is surf/surf, lobster thermidor, prime ribs and more. Saturdays feature oriental delights, including Peking duck, and dim sum.

Sunday is for Fiesta Filipina at P1,450 per person. There’s lechon and many other things like baked mussels, scallops, kinilaw, and
halo-halo for dessert.

Laurent Boisdron, general manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel, hosts “Every Day is a Party” tomorrow, August 12, at 8 p.m., at the hotel’s lobby bar.

Highlight is the opening of “Set in Motion,” an art exhibit by Sio Montera and Jewelle Yeung, in partnership with Qube Gallery.

The enticement: Chill out over cocktails, canapes and contemporary art. The exhibit will remain up to Aug. 22.
