The Cebu Provincial Board approved a resolution that called on the regional Department of Education (DepEd) to ban the location-based mobile augmented reality game “Pokemon Go” within school campuses.

In its resolution, the PB said players become easily distracted while searching for virtual Pokemon (pocket monsters) in open real world areas and expose themselves to danger from thieves and traffic.

The game was launched in the country last Aug. 7. The PB said the DepEd should issue a memorandum banning the game from being played in schools to prevent the incidence of accidents and crimes involving students.
