A DRUG suspect was killed during a shootout with Toledo police officers last Saturday at Sitio Casoy, Barangay Cantabaco, Toledo City in western Cebu.

Viviano Pantaleon, 50, died after he was shot several times by police officers who were serving a warrant of arrest on him, said PO2 Joselito Genon of the Toledo City Police Station.

Genon said police officers arrived at Pantaleon’s house to serve the warrant of arrest for a case of violation of illegal drugs and possession of firearms, when two cohorts of Pantaleon, who were near his house, pulled out their guns and fired at the police officers.

He said that a shootout ensued between Pantaleon cohorts and the police officers.

Genon said the police officers shot Pantaleon several times when he tried to throw a hand grenade at the officers.

Pantaleon’s cohorts, however, escaped while police officers were focused on neutralizing Pantaleon.

Police recovered from the crime scene a hand grenade, a KG9 submachine pistol with two magazines loaded with bullets, and 32 small sachets of suspected shabu. Five empty shells of a 9 mm pistol were also found inside Pantaleon’s sling bag.
