By: Norman V. Mendoza September 17,2016 - 09:26 PM

Two persons were killed in drug-related incidents in Mandaue City last Friday.

The first incident happened around 9 p.m. involving the victim Jundel Layon, 20, of Sitio Tribunal, Barangay Centro. PO2 Ariel Ginco, investigator of Centro Police Station, revealed that Layon was standing near a gas station along A. Del Rosario Street, when the two men onboard a motorcycle appeared.

The backrider then shot him several times resulting to his death.

It was learned that Layon had already surrendered to the police last July after being included in the drug watch list. He also had been in and out of jail for theft cases.

At past 10 p.m., the City Public Safety Company (CPSC) led by Chief Insp. Wilbert Parilla conducted a buy-bust operation against one Joel Mendoza, a suspected drug pusher who already surrendered to the police last July, but allegedly returned to selling illegal drugs.

During the buy-bust operation, Mendoza ran towards his house after learning that he was transacting with the police. Mendoza allegedly pulled a gun while hiding inside the room. Police followed him and asked him to surrender but Mendoza refused prompting the police to assault him. Mendoza succumbed two gunshot wounds in the body.

Police recovered three small packs of suspected shabu from Mendoza’s pocket as well as the buy-bust money and .38 revolver. In an interview, Mendoza’s wife denied that her husband returned to selling drugs.
