An inmate who escaped from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) was recaptured by authorities in Barangay Tigbon, Calatrava town, Negros Occidental at 8:30 pm last Friday.

Arnel Mait was rearrested by operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) and the Armed Forces, said Senior Supt. Jose Macanas, the CPPO| director.

Mait escaped from the CPDRC last July 25 by reportedly wearing a visitor’s ID and putting an ink mark on his arm using an improvised rubber stamp. He reportedly joined visitors who went out of the facility.

Macanas, in a text message, said Mait was seen in Calatrava town, Negros Occidental where he was immediately arrested.

Mait has only been detained for six months in the CPDRC and is undergoing trial for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, particularly for selling and possession of illegal drugs.
