CEBUANO artists will light up the halls of the historic pavilion that hosted last year’s International Eucharistic Congress as they will pay tribute to the Miraculous Mama Mary of Lindogon Simala on Her visit to Cebu City on October 7.
The celebration of faith and love will highlight the three-day veneration of Marian devotees as the Blessed Image will travel all the way from her home in Simala Church, (58 kilometers south of the island) to Cebu City.
Performing are Cebuano musical gems like Girlie Lapinid Laspiñas, Izarzuri Vidal, the Mandaue Children’s Choir, Sakdap and the singing priest, Fr. Jonas Mejares in “Halad Concert for Mama Mary: It’s All About Her,” a benefit concert to help kids in building their classrooms in Simala.
Cebuana singer Raki Vega, who is now based in Hong Kong will also fly to Cebu to perform a tribute song not just for Mother Mary but to all mothers who will be present in the concert.
The Image of the Blessed Mother will then be brought to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño and will spend a night with the the Holy Child on October 8, before heading back home to Simala the next day.
As Mary Ann Gonzales, chief executive officer and co-founder of Kapandesal Multi-Purpose Cooperative, puts it, it is entertainment and reflection rolled into one.
The concert is on the first night of The Blessed Image’s visit to Cebu City, where She will be housed at the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) pavilion.
“You will come out of the venue feeling loved,” she added.
For Gloria Villarojo, concert director, the concert is also the best way to give back to mothers for all the sacrifices and pain they’ve been through, as random photos of mom and their children will be shown during Raki’s performance.
“It’s time for mothers to get some treat and surprise them with your love,” she said.
The three-hour celebration of faith is a way to help build classrooms in Our Lady of Lindogon Foundation Inc, located in Simala town, down South Cebu.
“This effort started with the desire to help the students in Simala to build their classrooms,” said Villarojo.
At first, they thought that what children need were scholarships but they later learned that what they need more were classrooms and facilities, in line with the government’s K12 program.
Tickets priced at P200, P500 and P700 will become donations for the grade 11 and 12 students.
