Probe sought on woman who carried shabu to jail

CEBU City Councilor Dave Tumulak wants the Cebu City Jail and the police to investigate reports that a 47-year old woman was found with a small sachet containing shabu by jail guards.

“There should be a joint investigation conducted by BJMP and PNP especially since it has been identified that one of the sources of shabu inside the jail is Ozamiz City. That has to stop,” Tumulak said.

The Cebu City Jail is being managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

In a report submitted by Cebu City Jail Warden Jessie Calumpang, the woman identified as Gertrudes Sanchez Tangub of barangay Tejero was scheduled to visit her common law partner Edison Bobet Delos Santos prior to the inspection at 3 pm.

During the inspection, JO1 Simuon Garrido saw the shabu in Tangub’s purse. “When he asked the said visitor about it, the visitor immediately tried to wrestle the purse away from JO1 Garrido but to no avail,” the report read.

After the incident, Tangub was placed under arrest. She was later turned over to Guadalupe police precinct for detention pending the filing of charges against her.
