CEBU’S best rated and non-rated wood pushers will pit wits and strategies in the upcoming Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) 26th Anniversary Chess Cup slated from Oct. 15-16 at the Robinson’s Galleria Cebu.
Leading the list of the top contenders in the centerpiece Open division are International Master (IM) and now UC chess team head coach Kim Steven Yap, National Master (NM) Rommel Ganzon, Merben Roque, Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Arnolito Cadiz, Leonardo Alidani and Bonn Tibod.
Also competing are University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Michael Pagaran and Felix Shaun Balbona along with some of Cebu’s best junior wood pushers Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano who now plays for the Far Eastern University (FEU) in Metro Manila, Yves Fiel and Diego Claro.
Jun Olis, one of the tournament’s organizers said that among the senior chessers taking part in the annual event are; Mario Mangubat, Anthony Makinano, Carlos Moreno III, Erwin Ababat, Allan Salientes, CEPCA’s Rosendo Yamyamin, Jimmy Ty, Ben Dimaano, Rey Flores, Jojo Muralla, Peterson Sia, Amado Olea and Carlo Maraat.
A total of P50,000 in cash prizes will be given to the winners.
The champion will win P10,000 while cash will also be given up to the 26th finisher along with the top three Ladies, top three under-15 Kiddies, top three under-10 Kiddies and top three Cepcan A and Cepcan B players.
