More signs in landslide-prone Manipis

More warning signages will be placed in landslide-prone areas in Barangay Manipis, Talisay City.

This action was agreed upon after Manipis Barangay Captain Emma Cabiluna, Talisay City’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRMMO) personnel and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Baltazar Tribunalo met after another landslide caused by continuous rains happened in Barangay Manipis yesterday.

“We have agreed to put more signages and warnings in the landslide-prone areas here in Barangay Manipis,” Cabiluna said in a phone interview.

Cabiluna said landslide-prone areas in Barangay Manipis include Sitios Campo 5, Languyon, Manutu, Campo 7 and Telepono.

She said that these included the area where a landslide affected a bridge connecting the national road, making it impassable by four-wheel vehicles since Thursday night and as of 3 p.m. yesterday.

“This has been the same problem that we encounter every time it rains. Luckily, no one was hurt,” she told Cebu Daily News.

Last Oct. 9 and Aug. 2, two people including a 16-year-old boy, who passed the area were hurt when a landslide happened.

Cabiluna said they have tapped QM Builders, the contractor which is handling road widening and slope protection, to clear the road.

Engineer Joselito Sayson, officer-in-charge for construction of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7), said that slope protection project in Barangay Manipis still has to be finished.

“It depends when it will be finished. The slope protection project depends what suits in the specific area, it can be rockfall netting and riprap,” Sayson told CDN.
