The City of Iloilo is ready for the 40th National Milo Marathon Finals that will be held in this highly urbanized city tomorrow.

The foot race organized by Milo and Nestle Philippines will be held outside of Luzon for the first time in its 40-year existence.

Around 20,000 runners are expected to join the race that features 42-kilometer, 21k, 10k, 5k and 3k distances.

Iloilo was selected as this year’s official venue to provide better proximity for aspiring runners from the south.

The race will have its starting and finish line at the Iloilo Convention Center.

“We are all very excited to be hosting the most prestigious and longest running footrace in the country,” Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog said. “We are honored to be part of the historic culminating event of the National Milo Marathon’s 40th anniversary. We hope all our runners will enjoy the experience we have prepared for them.”

Cebu’s Mary Joy Tabal, the grandslam champion of the women’s 42k category, will try to defend her title again. The 27-year-old Tabal, who competed in the recent Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be joined by men’s division reigning champion Rafael Poliquit.

Cebu leg champions Ruffa Sorongon and Rafael Pescos will also vie for the crown along with the champions of the 13 other legs held in various key cities nationwide within the year.

Other noted runners in the lineup are Eduardo Buenavista, Christabel Martes, Ireneo Raquin, Eric Panique, Luisa Raterta and Chris Sabal.
