DORIA

EXPECT policemen to sing Christmas carols to households in Cebu City starting next week.

But Senior Supt. Joel Doria, Cebu City police chief, said they won’t be soliciting cash or material contributions.

Instead, they will appeal to those using or selling drugs to surrender.

“Policemen are prohibited from soliciting or receiving any donations, especially during the Christmas season. That is strictly prohibited,” Doria said in an interview yesterday.

Any policeman found to be soliciting or receiving donations or gifts will be penalized, he said.

But Doria said Cebu City policemen will go caroling as part of Oplan Tokhang in which policemen will visit houses and appeal to drug users and pushers to surrender to authorities.

Doria said all 11 police precincts in Cebu City are mandated to arrest or convince at least 294 drug users and pushers to surrender by the end of the year. “That’s our target and we have to to do it,” he said.

Doria said all policemen will continue conducting drug busts and raids during the holidays.
