Parul Shah and Maggie Wilson
BEST friends and former beauty queens Maggie Wilson and Parul Shah from the Philippines won the Amazing Race Asia season 5 last Thursday.
The team of Maggie and Parul beat two other teams during the competition’s last leg in Indonesia. In second place were Chloe and Yvonne from Malaysia, while Eric Tai and Rona Samson-Tai, also from the Philippines came in 3rd.
Maggie and Parul are the second team from the Philippines to win the race, following the win of Richard Herrera and Richard Hardin last 2010.
The two will be going home with $100,000.
Parul and Maggie joined the race for the experience and to help Parul with her father’s medical bills.
“We did it, we did it!” Maggie told Parul as the two of them hugged each other.
“We’re just so so happy we can help Parul’s family now, with our winnings,” Maggie said, referring to Parul’s dad, who previously suffered a stroke.
Parul then said that they thought they finished last in the final task but just went through with it to finish the race.
On the $100,000 cash prize, Parul said: “We’re actually splitting up the money and I’m going to help my family with mine. We’re going to help my dad retire and just come to the Philippines.”
