A CHESS tournament in honor of the nephew of Grand Master (GM) Enrico Sevillano will be held on Jan. 7 at the Knight Attack Café at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The tournament will be dubbed the Harvey Duke Harris III Memorial Chess Tournament.

Harvey Duke Harris III is the son of GM Sevillano’s sister, Guadalupe Sevillano. He was gunned down at home in Lexington, Kentucky, USA in August of last year. He was 17.

One of the organizers, International Master (IM) Kim Steven Yap, said Guadalupe Sevillano wants to make this chess tournament an annual affair in memory of her only child, who was also a chess player.

Guadalupe Sevillano, according to IM Yap, is a former chess champion of the Cebu Far East Chess Tournament.

The tournament will use a seven-round Swiss System format with a 10-minute time and five-second increment.

The champion will win P5,000 while second and third placers get P2,500 and P1,500, respectively.

For more information about the chess tournament, one can contact IM Yap at 0932-351-0816.
