THE MARIA Montessori International School (MMIS) will once again hold its running event dubbed “Run For A Healthy Heart” tomorrow.

The seventh edition will be a unique one as it will be held for a charitable cause. The footrace will be a fund-raising activity for the benefit of victims of Typhoon “Niña” in Camarines Norte.

The race, exclusive to MMIS students, parents, faculty and alumni, will have a 1-kilometer, 3k and 5k distances. It starts at the AFP Central Command in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

There are many firsts for this running event. It will be the first time that organizers will give all of the proceeds to the typhoon victims in Camaries Norte with the help of the AFP Central Command. This is also the first time that the gun start will be held in the afternoon, and the first time the race will be held inside Camp Lapu-Lapu. The race starts at 4 p.m.

Spearheading the race is the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) headed by its president Farrah Beuken.

Beuken was with Judith Bollozos, school director Mia Villamor-Young, school principal Dr. Benito Sotto and race director Joel Juarez in a press conference yesterday at the MMIS Gorordo campus.

Sotto said around 2,000 runners are expected to take part in this race. Most of the participants will be MMIS students from both the Gorordo and Talamban campuses. The rest will be composed of alumni and parents of the students.

Cash prizes await the top three finishers in each category.
