MARIO Bustillo took the March crown in last Sunday’s Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Monthly Chess Tournament at the Cebu’s Knight Attack Chess Café at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Bustillo finished the five-round Swiss system format competition with 4.5 points. He opened the first round with a draw against the younger Jeremy Bajo but bounced back by winning against Richard Gohetia Jr., Adelyn Bensi, Tony Barade and Eddie Flores.
Flores settled for second place by finishing with 4.0 points and 13 bucholz tie break points. Barade also scored 4.0 points but only had 11 tie break points to finish third place.
Bustillo, just like other monthly champions Adrian Valparaiso, Jun Kidlat and National Master (NM) Arnold Cadiz, earned a spot in the grand finals slated this December.
