The Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras began their long climb back to the upper echelon of the league after they nipped the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 72-67, in the 17th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Sunday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cobras were down by as many as 12 but rallied in the fourth period to overhaul the deficit and snatch their third win in eight games.
Shaquille Imperial fired in 29 points, 15 coming in the second period, which helped keep the Cobras afloat when the Wildcats threatened to break the game wide open. Gerald Fernandez was the next high-scorer with a near double-double of nine points and nine rebounds.
Jemcerson Sable had another gem of a game with 14 points, six boards, five assists, two steals and two blocked shots but it wasn’t enough to keep the Wildcats from falling down to 1-8.
