THERE were no drugs and only a few contraband items recovered by police in yet another greyhound operation held at 4 a.m. yesterday at the Mandaue City Jail.

Supt. Renante Rubio, Mandaue City jail warden, said the three-hour operation yielded two cell phones, a gaming console, playing cards, blades, ballpens, nail cutters and lighters.

There were no traces of illegal drugs found in the possession of the 1,864 inmates detained there.

Ballpens are considered contraband since they can be used as weapons by inmates, Rubio said.

“We considered this operation as the finishing touches for the past five days that we conducted a greyhound operation on our own,” Rubio said.

“We have to finish the operation before morning before sunrise and visiting hours to avoid hampering our inspection. We’ll also try to innovate our operations to prevent them from thinking of ways to bypass our inspections,” he said.

Rubio said the greyhound inspection was conducted with the Mandaue City Police Office and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology as part of their so-called “Oplan Linis-Piitan.”
