CEC Alumni Basketball League
Dimsum Frito captured the championship in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball League after they crushed the Northern Star-JPC’s Motorparts, 88-63, in Game Two to complete a 2-0 series sweep last weekend at the Cebu Eastern College gym.
Former University of the East standout Earn Saguindel put on a scoring display as he piled up 32 points to carry Dimsum Frito to the easy win. Joey Catipay and Mark Bukiron were just as lethal as they scored 24 and 22 points, respectively, in a fitting follow-up to their 76-69 win in Game One.
In that game, Saguindel took a backseat scoring just 10, leaving Bukiron to lead the way with 27 points. Catipay, on the other hand, backed up Bukiron with 20 markers to set the tone for the series.
Third place honors belonged to Roadstar, which beat Family Appliance, 90-86.
Bernard Aves paced Roadstar with 31 points while Rex Alinson had 22.
Meanwhile, the Mythical Five was composed of Juice Boost’s Christian Espada, Promate’s Eric Cabana, BCP Lubricant’s Donald Ting, Northern Star-JCP’s Motorparts Marven Bauya and Roadstar’s Michael Balankig, who was also named as the league’s Most Valuable Player.
The tournament was staged under the leadership of Anthony Chua, Bronson Pena and Tommy Yu.
