THE RED team capped off a perfect run through the Steeltech Playball Cebu Invitational Cup 2017 with a 34-28 victory over the Orange squad in the finals to capture the championship in the one-day tournament held last weekend at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts in Canduman, Mandaue City.
The win was a hard-earned one for Team Red as it trailed 13-19 early in the second half before uncorking a huge 13-0 run in the last four minutes to pull off the come-from-behind victory.
Red was still facing a four-point deficit, 19-23, when Ferdinand Tiro, Kim Rebosura and Brian Acebedo conspired in the telling rally that turned the tables around as it gave the team a 32-23 lead with just 30 seconds remaining.
The win netted Team Red the cash prize of P10,000 while Orange did not go empty handed as it bagged P8,000.
Red came away with a perfect 3-0 (win-loss) mark in the elimination round and clobbered Team Green in the semifinals, 46-35.
Orange also had a perfect 3-0 record in the elims and then edged Violet, 27-21, in their semis match.
The competition was a one-day basketball festival featuring shortened games of two ten-minute periods per game. Participants were architects and contractors spread over the eight participating teams, using a drafting system.
