ABOUT 22,000 senior citizens and 3,500 persons with disabilities (PWDs) received their cash gifts of P3,500 and P3,000 respectively from the Lapu-Lapu City government yesterday.

Lapu-Lapu City Social Welfare chief Ermelita Degamo said the cash aid for seniors whose numbers went up by 1,000 was increased by P500 this year.
The number of PWD beneficiaries who received the P3,000 cash aid went up from last year’s 2,500.

“We raised the amount this year due to the rising prices of commodities and it was approved by both the council and Mayor Paz Radaza,” Degamo said.

The cash aid was distributed at the barangay halls.

Degamo said each senior received a birthday cake and those who marked their birthday in one month could meet for a joint city-paid birthday celebration.

Centenarians or seniors who reach 100 years old in Lapu-Lapu City receive a P100,000 check from the city and a birthday celebration at their homes with cake, food and a visit from the mayor.
