Pagara falters in Japan

ALA Boxing Gym’s Jason “El Niño” Pagara suffered a crushing defeat in the hands of unbeaten Japanese Hiroki Okada last night at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 29-year old Pagara lost via a sixth round technical knockout (TKO) to the delight of the home crowd.

The loss was Pagara’s third in his career. He has 40 wins, 25 by knockouts, and a single draw.

Okada, meanwhile, remained unbeaten after 17 wins, 12 by knockouts. He clinched the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super lightweight title.

Pagara, a native of Maasin City was aiming to redeem himself from a sub par performance last September against unheralded Kenyan boxer James Onyango, which ended in a split draw.

But thinghs weren’t looking good for Pagara before the fight. On the eve of the bout, he failed to make the contracted weigt for the bout.

It was Pagara’s first loss in 13 fights since 2012. His first loss came from Mexican Rosbel Montoya in Cebu City. for the WBO Asia Pacific youth super lightweight title.
