331 sacks of charcoal seized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-7) in Barangays Bacayan and Caridad in Tuburan town, Cebu on January 18, Thursday last week.

The seized charcoal were estimated to be worth at P99,300.

DENR 7 Enforcement Division chief Ariel Rica said they considered the two barangays as hotspot areas of illegal source of forest products.

Rica said they have been constantly coordinating with the local government unit of Tuburan and the police to stop the illegal cutting of trees.

If the illegal cutting of trees still persists in the area, Rica said they will issue a moratorium on the issuance of a certificate of tree plantation ownership in the town.

The confiscated charcoals are now at the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) in Tuburan.

Rica said no person came forward to claim the ownership of the charcoal.
