The Cebu city government is only waiting for approval from the Commission on Audit (COA) before it starts demolishing  the earthquake-damaged city hospital building along N. Bacalso Avenue.

Councilor Mary Ann delos Santos said that the Office of the Building Official  already issued a demolition permit for the 45-year-old structure.

City legal officer Jerone Castillo was  tasked to follow up  the request with COA. The request was sent by the hospital’s ad hoc committee  two weeks ago.

Councilor Leah Japson, head of the City Council’s health committee, moved to table her resolution seeking council approval of the site development plan for the new CCMC building.

Delos Santos, CCMC adhoc committee head, later told reporters the  ad hoc committee  agreed during their meeting on Tuesday to delay approval of the site development plan until requirements for its approval are met.

Architect Miko Espina and acting city engineering Jose Marie Poblete are also working to simplify the site development plan and other technical details of the proposed construction project for easy understanding when they present this to the city council.

DEADLINES

The City Treasurer’s Office has  collected at least P9 million in donations  to fund the hospital reconstruction project.

Delos Santos said that despite delays caused by the need to secure the required permits and simply their site development plan presentation to the council, the

CCMC adhoc committee is still determined to meet   deadlines set to  start preliminary construction work this year.
